On a warm and humid day

We are experiencing a summer break after so many days of rain. We are not yet up for a long stretch of dry and sunny weather. Rain is forcast for tomorrow. Two days were enough to hear the call for hiking and outdoor photography. Nature loves this weather and responds with tremendous growth of the flora.
The Vogelmoos is a nature reserve consisting of a two large ponds in the clearing of a forest about 15 miles west of Luzern and additional 15 ponds that are for the most part hidden in the forest and not accessible at the moment due to the tremendous growth of shrubs and bushes.
The reserve is managed privately through a foundation. Last fall two new ponds were built in the reserve. They looked bare at the end of winter but within a few months their banks became populated by plants and shrubs and amphibians used it to reproduce.

A shack used by the staff caring for the reserve.
Meadowsweet in the forground of the large pond.
Various types of grass, reed and shrubs grow around the ponds.
Meadowseet
Wild Angelica, a favorite plant for wild bees.
Purple loosestrife
Meadow Brown, a butterfly that is attracted to reddish flowers.

Just a few weeks ago, the croaking and ribbitting of frogs and toads could be heard from quite a distance of the ponds. Yesterday, it wasn’t the predominant sound, rather the screetching of prey birts, like the kite birds (Accipitridae) that hover over the area.
