Spring in the air

About 5 years ago I learnt that the forest capping a hill 20 km west of my hometown contains a nature reserve of 29.2 acres with two ponds, a reed of 8.2 acreas, a meadow bordered by a hedge and woods of 21 acres. The nature reserve is located 2570 Feet (783 m)above sea level. ,

Situated ontop of the hill and protected on three sides by the forest, the nature reserve usually remains covered by snow during the early winter weeks of January and February.

The meadows begin to turn green when the air warms up but the thick ice on the pond takes longer to melt completely.

The greens that will cover the waterlines and the little island are not yet visible. The earliest flower that grows in this humid soil is the coltsfoot, Tussilago farfara.

Some bushes begin to prepare for spring by displaying their leaf buds.

Waiting for Spring

The fauna is ready to shwo its rebirth as soon as the daylight and the temperature is right.

Bellis perennis

Green meadows, daisy, coltsfoot and leaf buds are the tender pointers to spring in the Nature Reserve by the second half of February 2023.
