The warm weather of early February turned out to be a hoax.
The sun cosied the body underneath the warm coat for a short ten days.
Staying outside invigorated the mind and the desire for action.

Winter Crawling Back
The transition from winter to spring is rarely smooth and one way. However, what I did not expect last month was the deep cold that returned to Central Switzerland. It lingered for almost two weeks.
It snowed heavily in the Alps. Even in lower regions new layers of snow build up to 6 inches. The cold wind from the north pushed freezing air through the coat down to the skin. Few people visited the Nature Reserve and only sparse chirps were to be heard from birds that fluttered from one tree to the next. It was a hard time for them.

Logging at the entrance to the Reserve
Cutting trees is an important project during winter months. It aims to renew the forest from a predominantely pine forest to one mixed with deciduous trees.

The forest should become more of a mixture of firs and deciduous trees. This will broaden the scope of plant species and of animals that will find a home in the Nature Reserve.
